Jai Hindley has outdone himself over the last three weeks, as he rode into his first Grand Tour win. His
Giro d'Italia was ridden to perfection, and the leader of
BORA - hansgrohe has proved to be amongst the best in the world after his climbing prowess brought him a huge result.
“This is really a fantastic feeling. I started here with in mind what happened in 2020, when I lost the leader's jersey in the final time trial. I didn't want to go through that again," Hindley said right after sealing his win, with a very strong time-trial where he only lost a few seconds to Richard Carapaz who he distanced yesterday at the Passo Fedaia.
“I was constantly provided with updates and I felt good on the time trial bike. I didn't have to fight for it. When I got the split times, I knew I was on the right track. In the descent I was careful and didn't take any risks, and then rode full to the finish. I'm so happ." Hindley admitted.
The 26-year old is now another name in the list of Grand Tour winners, and he described his emotions after riding into the Verona amphitheater. "To win the Giro now is really incredible. It's amazing, really incredible. I am a proud Australian and I am delighted to be able to take this award home," he said. Plans for the rest of the season will be decided later, surely the only thing on the German team's plans for the coming days is celebrating a very important win.
