Jai Hindley wins 2022 Giro d'Italia

Jai Hindley has been confirmed as the winner of the 2022 Giro d'Italia after a strong performance in the final time-trial which has allowed him to succeed in the defense of the pink jersey on the final day.

He's finished the Giro with 1:17 minutes of advantage over 2019 winner Richard Carapaz who led the race throughout the third week, as Mikel Landa kept his third place in the final time-trial. This is the second Grand Tour victory for an Australian rider - after Cadel Evans won the Tour de France in 2011 - and the first time a rider from the nation conquered the Giro d'Italia.

BORA - hansgrohe have managed to take two stage wins throughout the Giro with Lennard Kämna winning on Mount Etna, and Hindley himself winning on Blockhaus confirming his status as a contender for the win. After a consistent and strong set of performances during the second and third week, Hindley dealt the killer blow on the final mountain of the race as he dropped Richard Carapaz on Passo Fedaia to seal the race's faith.

Reactions from Hindley and his competitors to come soon on CyclingUpToDate.
