The second stage of the Tour de France was held on Saturday. Jasper Philipsen managed to secure the fifth position in the stage.
"When the pace was picked back up it was very hectic, I went into the fences a few times. Peter Sagan almost pushed me off my bike, so I didn't really get to sprinting. Before I could start sprinting, the finish was already there. This was not really what I had hoped for. More luck and we have to look at the footage of what went wrong. But I think I had the speed and the legs," Philipsen said at the end of the day. Having finished fifth, it isn't the hoped result but it does mean the Belgian is on track to contest a win.
"Nobody from the team fell, that's the most important thing. I do think we worked well, but you have to have a little bit of luck. It was life and death. I still held my heart a few times that I didn't fall down." said Jasper. Today he will have a second opportunity.
