Two-for-two for Quick-Step as Fabio Jakobsen wins second stage of the Tour de France, Van Aert jumps into yellow jersey

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team have taken their second stage at the Tour de France, as Fabio Jakobsen sprinted to the win in a highly tense and chaotic day, with Wout van Aert riding into the yellow jersey after a high-speed sprint.

The fields around Rosvilde were packed with fans, that watched a four-rider group go up the road. Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education-EasyPost) who went on to sprint for the KOM classification jersey at the end of the day. Pierre Rolland and Cyril Barthe of B&B Hotels went up the road but, having failed their goal of the jersey, waited for the peloton, and lastly Sven Erik Bystrom who went solo with just over 60 kilometers to go and was caught with 32.

The peloton rode fast all day long, with a lot of tension caused by the wind. A few crashes saw riders go down, specially as the peloton entered the Great Belt Bridge, however the peloton remained relatively compact - with most of the work from Quick-Step, Lotto Soudal and BikeExchange.

A furious run-up to the line saw a crash just outside two kilometers to go, however with the time gaps conserved due to the rule. Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team had their leadout set, however in the last kilometer it was Trek - Segafredo who took charge of the head of the race.

Mads Pedersen was the first to launch the sprint, Wout van Aert came off his wheel and it seemed as if he was going to the win but Fabio Jakobsen came from the right side and took a strong win to celebrate his first road stage at the Tour. Van Aert took six seconds of bonus seconds and took over the race lead.
