Jakob Fuglsang: "If the results are not forthcoming again and it becomes a bad season, like the previous two years, it might be better to hang up the bike"

Jakob Fuglsang has experienced a hard year where he was absent from the spotlight. The 38-year old faces the possibility of 2024 being his last season, but he remains eager to continue his career as long as he can return to a high level.

“I hope I can get back to good enough results to prove that I still have a place in the peloton. If the results are not forthcoming again and it becomes a bad season, like the previous two years, it might be better to hang up the bike," Fuglsang said in an interview with Ekstra Bladet.

This season he has suffered from an illness which wrecked his spring, but in the moments where he managed to be in competition, he didn't impress. He was virtually away from contention within World Tour competition as well. He hopes to bounce back in 2024, although he has not yet had goals asigned for the year.

“When I signed this contract, I was pretty sure that 2024 would be my last year. But when I started training a month ago and thought about the fact that this could be my last season, I came to the conclusion that I want to do one more," he admits. "I'm going into the season with the goal of riding one more.”
