Thibau Nys has impressed this season both on the road and cyclocross, and is currently taking some rest as he looks to try and return to his best level off-road. However, already having his mind on the road season, he hopes to make a Grand Tour debut and the Giro d'Italia is the likely destination.
"The Vuelta would be the best option, purely in terms of lap, but that is more difficult towards the new cross season. I think the best thing for me would be the Giro. I'm going to do the full preparation for the Giro, with all the guys on the team. I'm going on an altitude training camp and will start my first road race in Romandie," Nys told In de Leiderstrui.
The Belgian has taken wins at the Tour of Norway and GP des Kantons Aargau, but is looking to take on new challenges and develop himself as a rider. He will not be riding the spring classics which are perhaps those that suit him best, but will prepare for the Giro alongside Giulio Ciccone and Jonathan Milan.
"We're not going to do the classic spring, maybe the following year. The Ardennes really appeal to me, although my heart lies in the Flemish classics, without a doubt. I think I'm a type who leans more towards the Ardennes than Flanders," he adds. "Although Tadej Pogacar also won De Ronde, although that was also genetically determined."
