Spain's Ivan Romeo has sensationally taken the under 23 individual time trial World Championship title in Zürich by 32 seconds from Jakob Soderqvist. Completing the final podium in third, was Jan Christen.
Notable and familiar names such as Nicolas Vinokourov (39:46), Antonio Morgado (39:07), Isaac del Toro (38:06), Darren Rafferty (37:44) and Jan Christen (37:23) all had respectable times, but as pre-race favourite Alec Segaert took to the course, it was Spain's Ivan Romeo that sat in the hotseat thanks to his blistering effort of 36:42.
At the second time check, Segaert led Romeo by 6 seconds, but Sweden's Jakob Soderqvist could also still dream of the title. At the line though, Soderqvist had faded slightly, eventually setting the provisional 2nd fastest time, 32 seconds slower than Romeo. Segaert meanwhile, was also beginning to fade badly and with just under a kilometre still to go, the clock turned red, giving the title to Romeo.
