After his controversial omission from
BORA - hansgrohe's Giro d'Italia lineup,
Emanuel Buchmann was able to prove a point at the
Tour de Hongrie, firing to 2nd overall in the general classification.
Despite riding hard on the final stage on Sunday, Buchmann couldn't manage to displace race leader, Thibau Nys however. “We wanted to make the race really hard in the finale, and we managed that quite well. I tried everything on the final climb and was able to move up to 2nd in the GC," the German National Champion recapped to the team's website post-stage. "I think that was the maximum possible for me given today’s race course. I now have an important training block ahead of me before it’s back to racing at the Tour de Suisse.”
"We tried everything we could today to still take the overall victory with Emanuel Buchmann," added BORA - hansgrohe sports director,
Shane Archbold. "The boys rode strongly and we can be very satisfied with taking home a 2nd place in the GC. All in all, a successful week for us at the Tour de Hongrie.”
As Buchmann mentioned, next up for the 31-year-old is the Tour de Suisse. Whether or not a Grand Tour will be on the cards in 2024 however, remains up in the air and with Buchmann in his contract year at BORA - hansgrohe, there is plenty of impetus for the German to impress.
He should have been in the Giro especially after two of their riders and GC hopeful Kamna dropped out
It seems Buchmann was not as bad as Bora made us believe. Same for Welsford
Bora needs to see this result👀. This miscommunication will cost them in the long run
Not sure, how will it cost them if he goes? If he stays, he’ll still have to explain how now that he has a point to prove the results can suddenly be there, that’s not what teams look for really.
