"I am very grateful for how Bahrain Victorious has taken care of me" - appreciates Sonny Colbrelli as he talks about his new role in the team

Sonny Colbrelli had to put an end to his career after a scary incident in 2022. Cardiac arrhythmias got in the way of the former winner of Paris-Roubaix. Colbrelli says in conversation with HLN that he is still having a hard time with it. Colbrelli refuses to talk about the Covid cases in the Giro d'Italia.

The Italian can explain why he finds it complicated. "The fact that I am no longer racing still bothers me. When you feel that your career is coming to an end, as it did with Greg Van Avermaet, it's easier to accept. But if you have to quit while you're still at the top level, it's hard. I had at least two or three good years ahead of me."

Colbrelli is very happy about his victory in Paris-Roubaix. The former Bahrain Victorious rider won a heroic edition in the rain and mud. "I'm very proud of that. I still have dark moments now and then, but I try to think of the good things. Looking ahead was the hardest part. The uncertainty, not knowing what will happen. Will I still be able to race? And if not, what am I going to do? Now there is a plan. It's good to have a plan."

"I am very grateful for how Bahrain Victorious has taken care of me," said Colbrelli, who is an ambassador for the team. "I am the personal contact point for a number of partners. They can come to me with questions, or I work on projects. At the Giro I accompany few sponsors in the last 50 kilometers of the stage every day."
