While the Giro d'Italia is in full swing and
Jumbo-Visma riders are trying their best to guide Primoz Roglic towards overall victory, other riders such as Wout Van Aert or
Dylan van Baarle are preparing for their
Tour de France appearances in altitude of Sierra Nevada.
For Van Baarle, who started his spring on a strong note with a victory in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, it is his first time in Sierra Nevada, the popular Spanish mountains. "It's my first time here. It's nice to have a new training environment again," said the man who broke his hand and shoulder in a crash in Paris-Roubaix.
Van Baarle is in the high mountains together with Van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard, Christophe Laporte and Steven Kruijswijk, among others. "After training we go to the apartment of the chefs who cook for us. Then we stay until after the finish. We really look at the Giro as a group and of course we hope that Primoz will have the pink in Rome," 31-year old Van Baarle continues.
Van Baarle notes in the conversation, that he cannot yet say who specifically impressed him. "I have to say that everyone does different exercises. You see each other doing few specific exercises. I can't say how the other guys ride, but I think the level is just very high," the Dutchman concludes.
Wout Van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard, Dylan Van Baarle, Tiesj Benoot, Sepp Kuss, Nathan Van Hooydonck, Steven Kruijswijk and Christophe Laporte are currently on the Jumbo-Visma provisional start list for the Tour de France.
