Fem van Empel was victorious once again this afternoon in Belgium. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider was dominant in Hamme and has dedicated the victory to her team.
"I felt very good, so I was happy with that. I wanted to be able to ride at my own pace, because it was treacherous with those tracks. Riding alone was an advantage and so I decided to ride at my own pace from the start," van Empel said in a post-race interview. "Halfway through the race I heard the time difference, so from that moment on I was able to maintain a good pace."
It was a traditional day for the Dutch youngster, where she showed her very best level and once again was unmatched by the rest of the competition. Although a few names were missing, she comfortably distanced Lucinda Brand in the first lap of the race, and then cruised over the six laps to arrive at the finish with a hefty and comfortable lead over the national champion.
It was one of many successes for the World Champion this season, who continues to impress and seems to be on the way to revalidate her title in Tabor. She complements Visma's work for this success. "Sometimes it is underestimated how much they do for me. I am in the picture, but the people around me may work even harder."
