How the MPCC member teams have dealt with Nairo Quintana case: "No team that is part of the MPCC subsequently decided to hire the Colombian rider"

Nairo Quintana has arranged to meet with important European institutions to discuss his tramadol case, the fact that the MPCC has released the 2022 doping figures, which include Quintana's name, does not bode well for the Colombian cyclist.

The data was compiled by collecting information from diverse sources such as federations, anti-doping agencies, and press articles, all related to professional athletes, and subsequently analysed and organized for their annual filing.

The surprising fact is that Quintana's case does not legally qualify as doping. “A closer analysis reveals that if we limit ourselves to professional cycling, this is the lowest number,” read the statement released by MPCC.

It further read, "In compliance with our strict ethical standards, it should be added that no team that is part of the MPCC subsequently decided to hire the Colombian rider, and that this attitude seems to have become essential for everyone.”

Given the MPCC president's previous remarks, singling out the Colombian and expressing his refusal to meet with him, this news should come as no surprise. Until today Quintana remains without a contract for 2023, but continues to have his competitive edge as he recently rode to a third position at the Colombian national championships.
