The Giro d'Italia under-23 every year showcases some young new talents in the U23 ranks, very often riders that quickly jump onto the Elite rankings with great success. This year however the race has caught the attention of some due to it's large convoy, made up of 35 teams.
With the lowering of the number of riders per team in pro cycling most have gotten used to the idea of having smaller peloton, however able to evade the rule, the under-23 Giro has hit the road with the same number of riders - 176. Those are spread between 35 teams which is a remarkable representation, with teams of five riders, which include Italian pro teams, under-23 teams and others which are directly linked to World Tour team structures.
The first stage of the race was won by Alberto Bruttomesso whilst Britain's Leo Hayter won the second day of the race and currently sits in the race lead.
