Eight climbers and puncheur form
EF Education-EasyPost's lineup for the
Giro d'Italia. No GC ambitions and no sprinters from the last team to confirm their riders for the first Grand Tour of the season.
It is in fact a lineup different from all others. The American comes into the race without a sprinter to fight for a result on the flat days, but also without a rider to chase the overall classifications. On the mountainous days the team will not count on Hugh Carthy who was initially expected to be their leader but has not shown good form recently. Colombian duo
Esteban Chaves and
Jefferson Alexander Cepeda will focus specifically on the high mountain days.
Simon Carr will likely be the team's best option for a stage win, having won the Trofeo Calvià in January, but more recently a stage and KOM classification at the Tour of the Alps. The lineup counts with
Michael Valgren who races his first Grand Tour since the 2021 Tour de France due to career-threatening injuries suffered almost two years ago. The team is completed by four riders who can chase wins on the hilly days of the race in
Andrea Piccolo,
Stefan De Bod,
Mikkel Honoré and
Georg Steinhauser.
