The men’s World Championship road race has been interrupted by a protest but it’s all good, everyone is resting/chatting/laughing, the time gaps will be maintained, and riders can restart quickly after interruptions (like crashes, which are common).
Arguably the biggest single day of racing on the calendar, the men's elite World Championship road race was halted for almost an hour earlier due to protesters. Now it has been revealed that five people involved have been arrested.
The environmental group 'This is Rigged' used stuck themselves to the road, disrupting the race and causing riders to be halted as the police looked to force them off the surface. Scottish police have now revealed that a total of five individuals involved in the protest have been arrested and taken to a local jail. Meanwhile, the racing was thankfully able to get back underway.
