First lot of teams confirmed for Gran Premio New York and more "teams from around the world will be announced in the next couple of weeks"

In May of next year, a new, UCI 1.2 one-day race will take place in one of the most famous locations on the planet as the Gran Premio New York takes place in the United States.

Speaking to GCN, race organiser Uli Fluhme has revealed the first teams confirmed to take part in the 'Big Apple's' big race and eluded to the potential of more big name teams to confirm in the coming weeks and months.

“In terms of the teams, what I can tell you is Bardiani is coming, Corratec is coming and a lot of Continental teams from around the world will be announced in the next couple of weeks,” says Fluhme, who also organises the Grand Fondo New York.

“It’s been a long time coming for us. We started GFNY in 2011 and we had no idea what would happen. After doing the [gran fondo] for two years, I said to Lydia, my wife and co-founder, ‘We got to do a pro ride here, it’s a waste of closed course to not have one.’” The aim eventually, is to bring a World Tour race to the streets of New York.
