Anders Skaarseth believes the problems in his left leg, a consequence of his heavy crash at E3 Saxo Classic, have been resolved, after he had to undergo extensive surgery. Nevertheless, he is a long way from both the training session on rollers and actual racing with his colleagues.
"I have had a rod in the bone marrow for a long time, but the problem was that the lower part of the calf was crooked in relation to the rest. That distance has meant that the bone has not healed properly. It has also given me pain when I have sat on the bike," Skaarseth tells Eurosport.
"It was a rather intense operation, so there is still a lot of pain. But the first impression and feeling is much better than the one I had last time. In any case, I feel that there is much better mobility in the knee and ankle and that the pain is less," says Skaarseth after the second operation to his leg.
"There is also something about wanting the body to resolve itself. My left foot has been so weird both when I've walked and cycled. One aspect is that I want to return to the highest level, and the other part is that I want to function properly for the rest of my life. Then the solution was to correct it a bit. Nothing would have improved by waiting until you were 50-60 years old," he points out.
