Fabio Jakobsen wins final Belgium Tour stage but points out dangerous finish: "A corner three hundred meters from the finish is asking for trouble"

Fabio Jakobsen has gotten over a training camp and returned to competition on great form. He has won two stages at the Baloise Belgium Tour, succeeding this afternoon Bruxels as he beat strong competition in a technical finale.

"This one is for Gino. We will all miss him. It hasn't been easy for anyone these past few days, but especially not for his family and friends and everyone who misses him," Jakobsen said in a post-race interview. After winning stage 2, the European Champion once again rode a strong stage and was perfectly placed into the final sprint.

He jumped off the wheel of Mathieu van der Poel in the final meters to take a convincing win, this time directly beating his main rival Jasper Philipsen. The two are expected to be the strongest sprinters into the Tour de France, however after winning the stage and with the backdrop of this week's tragic circumstances, the Soudal - Quick-Step rider was keen on pointing out and criticizing the finale, which included several corners including one with 300 meters to go.

"However, cycling is also our job. And then today we're heading for a corner, which I don't quite agree with. A corner three hundred meters from the finish is asking for trouble. I think Philipsen almost fell there. A lot of guys came down too. I think there shouldn't be any turns in the last five hundred metres, but that's something for the safe committee I guess," Jakobsen concluded.
