Baloise Belgium Tour: Fabio Jakobsen takes second sprint win on final stage; Mathieu van der Poel wins overall classification

Fabio Jakobsen proved once more his good form, winning the sprint in the final stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour. Mathieu van der Poel arrived in the final peloton and secured the overall win.

The final day of racing saw the overall classification secured for Mathieu van der Poel who didn't have climbs or tricky weather conditions to face, as a bunch sprint seemed unavoidable. Kobe Vanoverschelde, Stefano Gandin, Thimo Willems, Alex Colman, Andrea Pietrobon, Kay de Bruyckere and Lucas Jannssen formed the breakaway of the day.

The group collaborated well, however despite their number, the fierce chase in the peloton wouldn't allow them to succeed, with 14 kilometers to go eventually the move was closed.

There were, as was the case in the opening days, several crashes in the run-up to the finish, however most of the sprinters survived the chaos and arrived at the final kilometer in front and with their leadouts relatively organized.

Entering the short final straight Mathieu van der Poel immediately launched his sprint, with Caleb Ewan alongside. However that proved to be too early for the dash to the line, Fabio Jakobsen launched his sprint at the right time and had the best legs out of the sprinters, he flew into a very strong win, the second of the week whilst van der Poel secured the GC win. Jasper Philipsen and Thibau Nys completed the podium.
