Eurosport commentator Jeroen Vanbelleghem recalls the stage after Gino Mäder's death: "The next day was somewhat comparable to the day after the death of Bjorg Lambrecht"

In Kop over Kop, Eurosport's cycling podcast, the cycling season is reviewed at the end of the year. There were highs and lows. A major low point according to commentator Jeroen Vanbelleghem was the death of the Swiss rider Gino Mäder during the Tour de Suisse.

Vanbelleghem discusses Mäder's death in the latest podcast. "His death really touched me. That was not only because I commented that day together with Bobby, but also because I was completely involved in that race and had to comment again the next day."

"That day was very strange. I tried to remain silent at the right moments and at other times to talk about the man Gino Mäder. When you hear that he didn't make it, you look up what he has achieved and what he was like as a person."

"The next day was somewhat comparable to the day after the death of Bjorg Lambrecht, who died during the Tour de Pologne. I also commented then. That day after it happened was a difficult day. That was no different this time," said Vanbelleghem.
