Remco Evenepoel and Tadej Pogacar. Two of the riders that Jonas Vingegaard will be facing at the Tour de France were topics which the Dane talked about in a recent interview, and he admits that the Giro-Tour double could also be a goal for his future.
On Evenepoel, who will make his Tour de France debut next summer, the defending champion has eagerness for a battle: “I can't wait to fight with him, especially in the two time trials of the Tour. He defeated me in this specialty at the last Vuelta, but it must be said that I was not at my usual level. It will be interesting to see how I can compete with him when I'm at 100% too," Vingegaard admitted in words to SpazioCiclismo.
Evenepoel looked to have his best level at the Vuelta a Espana and was the only big rival for Team Visma | Lease a Bike, however a bad day on stage 13 eliminated him as a GC contender. He will hope not to have the same faith in France and will have a team supporting him with more firepower in the mountains. Vingegaard is also asked about Tadej Pogacar who has been his biggest rival for the past two years and who will race the Giro d'Italia before the Tour. The Dane doesn't discard doing the same in the future.
"Even if Tadej goes to the Giro, we consider him one of my strongest opponents. Imitate Pogacar at the Giro? Maybe in the future I will try for the double," he shares. "It depends on what happens at the next Tour and the Vuelta. This year I wasn't at my best in Spain, we'll have to see if I'll be able to achieve the same result in Spain that I achieved in the Tour. If so, I'll try the Giro."
