Paris-Roubaix winner Alison Jackson and Giro d’Italia sensation Derek Gee will lead Team Canada at the 2023 UCI Road World Championships in Glasgow. Rosters for elite women and elite men each feature seven riders.
North American country brings a group of aggressive riders who like to create action in the bunch and that is exactly what the team around Derek Gee, Guillaume Boivin and Hugo Houle is expected to do. Canada will be disappointed if they miss the early breakaway.
Canada lineup for Elite Men World Championship:
Guillaume Boivin, Pier-André Côté, Charles-Étienne Chrétien, Derek Gee (both races), Hugo Houle, Benjamin Perry and Nickolas Zukowsky (both races)
Canada lineup for Elite Women World Championship:
Olivia Baril (both races), Simone Boilard, Maggie Coles-Lyster, Paula Findlay (only ITT), Alison Jackson, Sara Poidevin and Sarah Van Dam
Canada's U23 team might not include the most striking names, but the more can they potentially surprise. Michael Leonard, the first year U23 rider, is in his first season with INEOS Grenadiers. While he's yet to show his full potential, we have already seen glimpses of brilliance against the clock. Riley Pickrell, who'll be turning pro with Israel-Premier Tech next year, on the other hand could be a good shot in case of a sprint of big group.
