"Coincidentally, Jumbo-Visma calls at just the right time every year" - Lotto-Dstny boss accuses Jumbo-Visma of gaining unfair advantage in booking hotel rooms

Lotto Dstny boss Nicolas Maes has controversially claimed that his team were told there were no rooms left at a hotel on the Volcano of Teide only for Jumbo-Visma to swoop in and claim the rooms for themselves.

"Coincidentally, Jumbo-Visma calls at just the right time every year," Maes laments and his claims are supported by UAE Team Emirates rider Jasper Stuyven who says the following. "We've booked a lot of rooms there, but not to get in the way of the other teams. We know the hotel fills up fast in February. You gotta be quick."

"It's possible you call in July and there's no room, but all of a sudden there's August. There's a lot of lobbying and there's a race between the teams. to get rooms," Stuyven concludes. The Dutch set-up are yet to formally respond and alleviate some of the fears of other teams.
