Caleb Ewan underwent plate-removing surgery right after Tour de France

Caleb Ewan has undergone a surgery right after the Tour de France to remove a plate he had inserted in his collarbone, Lotto Soudal announced, with success and is already recovering from it.

The team announced the successful procedure on social media. Ewan had the plate inserted after crashing out of the 2021 Tour de France, in the same crash that saw Jack Haig abandon the race, which left him with harsh injuries in his shoulder and arm.

Ewan has endured a complicated season filled with illnesses and crashes, the latter very present during the Grand Tours where he's struggled through due to them, on decisive days. Ewan failed to get a stage win at both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, and will now go through a recovery period before focusing on future targets.
