Caleb Ewan unable to be in contention for Tour win so far: "My form is there and I’m sure luck will turn to our side"

Caleb Ewan has came to the Tour de France with clear goals of taking a stage win, however until now those chances remain remote as the Australian finished 13th and 9th on both sprints so far.

"I tried to launch my sprint on the right side of the road but then all the guys in front of me also starting waving to the right and I had no possibility to pass because otherwise I had run into the barriers," Ewan said after the finish today. Stage three provided another opportunity for the 'Pocket Rocket' who had support of Reinardt Janse van Rensburg in the final kilometer.

Things seemed to be in place for the Lotto Soudal sprinter to fight for the win, however luck was not on his side as he was blocked by Peter Sagan in the final meters in response to a wave in the group which took him out of contention.

"It’s a pity that I couldn’t show my sprint yet but the positive thing is that the team is really strong, my form is there and I’m sure luck will turn to our side," Ewan concluded. Stage four into Calais tomorrow will be another opportunity for Ewan, who is looking to get his first win since the Tour of Turkey back in April.
