Bob Jungels had been a rumoured to be joining Team DSM over the last few weeks, however today it was confirmed that the 29-year old will be joining BORA - hansgrohe on a two-year deal.
"I’m sure that I can still develop as a rider and I'm also willing to work hard for it. For me, this change feels like it's the start of something big," Jungels said in a press release. The move comes after a return to form from Jungels, as he rode into a strong sixth place at the Tour de Suisse, and soared to a stage win at the Tour de France alongside a 12th position in the final overall classification.
Jungels will be joining the German team after two seasons at AG2R Citroën Team, where he mostly struggled to achieve good form. Besides the stage-races, Jungels has over his career also thrived in the cobbled classics and time-trials, fruits of his powerhouse stature. He will be another key in the engine of BORA, who look to make it a beneficial move for both sides.
Team DS Rolf Aldag has said that Jungels "brings an incredible amount of experience, but at the same time also a lot of potential" and that "his potential is not yet fully exhausted". BORA - hansgrohe are making the effort to continue having their depth in the mountains and the Luxembourger felt like a perfect fit. "We’d like to continue to add more depth to our squad to make it difficult for our competitors to predict our racing. Bob can certainly play a key role in important races as he is very versatile," he concluded.
