BORA - hansgrohe has truly had an immense financial boost over the past 12 months due to the entrance of Red Bull into the team, and the building of an incredibly strong lineup for 2025 does not stop. Nico Denz, who will be a key support rider for Primoz Roglic at the upcoming Tour de France, has signed for another two seasons.
30-year old Denz is himself an established winner, having won twice at the 2023 Giro d'Italia and carrying in his palmarès a few more pro wins at high level. In 2023 he was brought into the German team and away from DSM, and the team has found in Denz the ideal kind of rider to support their Grand Tour contenders' ambitions.
Denz raced Paris-Nice together with Primoz Roglic but most importantly, he was a pivotal part of the Slovenian's recent Criterium du Dauphiné win. A road captain, strong rouleur and decent climber, Denz connects the dots between the team's climbing ambitions but also the needs to keep the Slovenian safe. He will be at the upcoming Tour de France, as a domestique for the team.
“After my first very successful year with BORA – hansgrohe, I'm happy to continue riding here," Denz said in a press release issued by the team. "It's a great environment where I feel at home. I'm also delighted to be part of the new project with Red Bull. To play a support role in a Grand Tour victory is one of my biggest dreams, which I hope to fulfil here in the team.”
Red Bull is set to be announced as the team's new title sponsor ahead of the Tour de France, within the next two weeks. Denz' quality is not the only thing that is beneficial for the team, but his nationality is also desired within the team. Emanuel Buchmann is the reigning German national champion but he will be departing the team at the end of the year. Denz himself could be the next wearer of the jersey - which will be raced in less than two weeks.
