One of the most successful professional cyclists of the modern era,
Peter Sagan has recently proven he also has the brains for the stock exchange, winning the second edition of the Flowbank Championship, a trading competition for famous sports stars.
According to
Flowbank themselves, Sagan put his racing knowledge to good use in this competition. "Peter Sagan won the 2024 FlowBank Championship by utilising a tactic that he often implemented in his races. Staying well embedded in the middle of the pack until the perfect moment to launch himself for a final sprint," the Slovakian's strategy is explained. "Mainly focusing on therapeutics stocks throughout the competition, it wasn't until Sagan shorted US Tech in the last days that his portfolio really took off."
Joined by the likes of Anthony Joshua (boxer), Ana Markovic (footballer), Israel Adesanya (UFC fighter), Antoine Dupont (rugby player) and Esteban Ocon (Formula 1 driver), Sagan managed to increase his initial investment by a very impressive 129.97 percent, giving him the win ahead of Markovic in second and Joshua in third.
"Thrilled to have won the #FlowBankChampionship trading competition after a contest with some incredible athletes who proved to be just as competitive in trading as they are in their respective sports," reflected Sagan in a post on his official Instagram account. "It was tight, right up to the final hour of trading. We enjoyed a wonderful evening together yesterday at the prize-giving ceremony, talking about our athletic journeys and sharing our trading secrets."
"Thanks to Flowbank for this great partnership and the beautiful trophy. I'm sure we all learned from this competition and for me personally some skills in trading also apply to the mountain trails or the roads," the 34-year-old Slovakian concludes. "I don't know what the future holds but this competition made me eager to be back next year."
