With twelve relatively experienced Soudal - Quick-Step riders gone after 2023, and ten mostly young riders added, Bert Van Lerberghe and other long-standing Wolfpack members will have had to learn few new names and faces during first training camp.
"Something had to be done, because reinforcements were needed for Remco," the Belgian noted. "Half the team may be gone, but the other half is still there. And that bond is still there, so I certainly still believe that we can achieve enough success," he assured In de Leiderstrui.
The Belgian is now permanently linked as lead-out to Tim Merlier. "But I also liked riding with Fabio, we clicked well and he completely trusted me," said Van Lerberghe. "It is of course an even greater advantage if you can always ride together, so hopefully that will also be reflected in the races that I will ride with Tim."
This will also be the case in some Flemish spring classics. "We're going to try to do the best we can. We ride all the sprint classics, so we will try to score as well as possible," said Van Lerberghe, who may also play a role for his other teammates in the tougher classics. The pool for fishing for those races has become somewhat smaller however with numerous departures.
