"So, UAE was very strong and very conservative. If you see what happened after the San Pellegrino climb, UAE pulled themselves together and had all 8 riders together. You can't understand how it makes you feel as a team, the comfort it gives you, to see that everybody is suffering and tired and you have your 8 riders there. That gives a sense of security. UAE was very strong, with every attack or selection they had 3 or 4 guys, or even more".
He also said that Ayuso and Roglic didn't have their best day and that Del Toro was a bit accelerated. However, seeing the level of the Mexican, he does not rule him out at all to win the
Giro d'Italia: "I think Primoz Roglic and
Juan Ayuso didn't have a great day, when Del Toro went, Ayuso didn't follow his wheel and had to wait for someone else to close the gap, if he had been good he would have done it".
"On Roglic the same, he was a bit behind and didn't react fast. When Del Toro went off Caruso and Tiberi went with him, so it was no big deal. I still don't know why he did it, inexperience and excitement makes you do this kind of thing, what is for sure is that he is incredibly strong, he was second at the end, he has the biggest punch at the end, in this kind of stages he goes without a chain. He's so strong it's scary, I wouldn't feel comfortable if I was one of his rivals including
Juan Ayuso."
