Arnaud de Lie gets the opening stage of Étoile de Bessèges

The Lotto-Dstny young sprinter Arnaud de Lie, one of the rising stars of the team, got his 2nd win of the season. The Belgian survived Trek-Segafredo, Mads Pedersen attack on the finishing hill and beat him on the sprint.

Étoile de Bessèges started with a mostly flat stage with a ramp in the end facilitating a punch sprint finish. There were some crashes along the stage and at approximately 70 kilometers to the finish the peloton split in 2 groups due to echelons. Of the breakaway Ayco Bastiaens (Alpecin-Deceuninck) manage to be the first leader of the mountain's classification being caught around 35 km to go.

The 2nd group was able to catch the 1st one who had around 35 riders, specially due to the work of Alpecin-Deceuninck, Arkéa-Samsic and Cofidis teams close to the last 10 kilometers of the race.

The race ended with an explosive finish with Arnaud de Lie (Lotto-Dstny) getting the better ahead of Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and Benoit Cosnefroy (Ag2r-Citroen). With this win the Belgian become the first leader of the race and tomorrow he has another chance to win again.
