Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas have been teammates for long years but currently they are in very different places within cycling. The multiple-time Tour de France winner takes inspiration from the Welshman.
"It's typical Froomey fashion, he just never gives up, slightly deluded really - in as polite a way as you can say," Thomas said recently in an interview. "That's just him, he's a winner and he wants to win, although he's quite far off that at the minute. But he's working hard and that's what he wants to do." The two worked together for several Tour de France victories, but cycling has in the meantime changed. The new generations have soared through, with higher numbers, training methods and nutrition that many were not able to match.
Thomas did however, finishing on the podium of the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia in the past two seasons. “With Geraint, there's one year separating us so to see him still up there fighting for Grand Tour victories, that basically confirms to me that age isn't necessarily a factor in this. It's more about the preparation and as it's always been, the readiness to race," Froome told GCN.
Froome in the meantime has not been able to recover his pre-2019 crash level, and throughout his past years with Israel - Premier Tech has been struggling, but always motivated to chase Tour de Franc success.
