Cycling meets politics - French and Chinese presidents Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping visit Col du Tourmalet

Between May 6 and 7, President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron welcomed his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for a state visit on opportunity of 60th anniversary of first diplomatic relations between the two countries.

And it wouldn't Macron if the conversations didn't turn to Tour de France for at least a brief moment. But with Macron being the huge supporter of La Grande Boucle that he is, the French president didn't miss the opportunity to invite Xi Jinping and his accompaniment to see the world from the summit of Col du Tourmalet.

On top of the mythical Tour de France climb, the two exchanged thoughts in a traditional mountain cabin, Macron surprised the Chinese president with a gift truly belonging to this iconic Pyrenean pass - the famous Yellow jersey.

Whether Xi Jinping liked this present is up to reader's imagination, but one thing is sure, it's highly unlikely he would hang it on the wall of his office when he returns to Beijing.
