At one point during the interview however, former politician turned presenter, Ed Balls commented on his belief that mountain bike 'looks quite easy'. As you may imagine, the double Olympic mountain bike champion Pidcock was somewhat unimpressed. "Someone showed me a clip of that actually before we came in. I was supposed to ask you about it!" Pidcock answers with a wry smile as Balls stuttered and stumbled over his follow up question.
Eventually, the presenter gets around to asking
INEOS Grenadiers' Pidcock about that epic finale to the race, in which the Brit launched a daredevil move up the inside of leader Victor Koretzky, almost bringing the Frenchman down, but firing to the victory and the gold medal on basically the very last corner, much to the chagrin of the partisan Paris crowd on course, who vocally voiced their displeasure with boos to the Brit.
"It's just practice laps I guess. Monday we raced, the first day of practice was Thursday on the course and I went Thursday, Saturday and Sunday," Pidcock explains on how he knew that area of the course could be a good opportunity for a last gasp overtake.
