Tom Pidcock confirmed for MTB rainbow stripes defense in Andorra after back-to-back Olympic title

Inspired by his successful Olympic gold defense, Tom Pidcock will also enroll at the World championships in Andorra next week. Last year in Glasgow, Pidcock won cross-country race ahead of Sam Gaze and following the example set at Olympics, he's now also coming for a double at the rainbow race.

Taking place between next Wednesday and Sunday, other events at the competition will include the cross-country short track and downhill disciplines. Alongside Pidcock, fellow Olympian Charlie Aldridge will represent Great Britain in the elite men’s cross-country squad. British national cross-country champion Cameron Orr is also set to ride.

Last time out in Glasgow, Pidcock overcame mechanical issues with his bike before powering to the world title. His win on the Glentress Forest course near Peebles made him the first male British rider to become the elite cross-country mtb world champion.

Likewise at the Paris Olympics, Pidcock had to overcome an early puncture which nearly took him out of the running for a medal at Élancourt Hill. He then powered past France’s Victor Koretzky in the closing stages to take the win.

Pidcock's road programme with INEOS Grenadiers amidst transfer speculations is up in the air, however he should appear at the home Tour of Britain right after the MTB World championships and then he should head over to Canada for the classics in Quebec and Montreal.
