Despite having won stages of the Tour de France and famously triumphed at Milano-Sanremo, Mohoric has previously credited the Gravel
World Championships as his biggest career victory. If and when he returns to the discipline, is he expecting similar success? "I’m not confident that I can do well, because I’ve never done it and I have zero experience but I wasn’t confident about Gravel Worlds, so we’ll see. It’s nice for the world champion to be there at the biggest races and Unbound is a bit where it all started,” he says.
"I didn’t expect the win in the Gravel World Championships to be this popular but the entire discipline is on the upward trajectory," he concludes. "I think that’s good, and the partners are pushing a lot for this as it’s a new market for them. For me personally, it’s something new and different. It brings up the memories of my childhood when I used to ride off-road. I even started to want to race off-road before concentrating on the road."
