The cyclo-cross riders are heading to a winter wonderland this weekend. The Val di Sole World Cup course is once again covered in a thick layer of snow. Not only a challenge for the course builders, but also for the riders themselves.
Chris Mannaerts, who is monitoring the construction of the course for organizer Flanders Classics, confirmed: "There was still some doubt when a lot of rain had fallen last Friday and all the snow was suddenly gone, but on Saturday we were again helped by the weather gods."
And according to the weather forecasts, that layer of about twenty centimeters will remain nice until Sunday. "The weather remains constant here," Mannaerts explains. "There won't be much snow anymore, but the snow that has fallen will certainly not melt anymore. We seem to have chosen the perfect week."
Aesthetically, the white cross will look nice on screen again, but the snow carpet will also have its sporty consequences. "But the riders do not have to fear a skating rink, they normally find good packing snow."
