On Sunday the riders will go to Troyes to complete the fourth round of the World Cup. The cross is brand new to the World Cup, so it is unclear what kind of course will await riders in France. WielerFlits talked to organizer Clément Philippon to find out more ahead of the race.
"It is a circuit of about two kilometers. It is not a very challenging circuit, all parts run quite well and it is generally relatively flat. We have managed to create a number of obstacles. We have a staircase, a walkway and beams. We also have a long, heavy slope. Those are the major challenges."
The surface of the course is almost entirely grass. Philippon estimates it to be 90% grass, 10% road. Outside of the long slope there is little difference in height. In the first part of the course there are a number of technical passages with many right-angled bends. "The riders with a great technique will enjoy the first part. In the second part there are also quite a few bends, but less perpendicular ones. There will also be some longer stretches, so the speed will be high."
"The only thing that is still difficult to estimate are the weather conditions. As a result, the lap may change at the last minute, but for now it will be a fast race. Who will come into their own in Troyes? I think of Laurens Sweeck. He is in good shape and he exudes power on the bike. He has a lot of power, so I think this suits him well."
