Denise Betsema will miss the beginning of cyclocross season: "Fortunately the cyclo-cross season starts a little later, this gives a little more time to prepare"

Denise Betsema has had to postpone the official start of her cyclo-cross season. The 30-year-old lady from Texel, is still suffering too much from the consequences of a fall during training about two months ago. CyclingOnline reports this.

Betsema, who will also represent the colors of Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal again this cyclo-cross winter, reportedly hit the asphalt particularly hard when she was training on Texel. "It was a big blow. Fortunately, I did not suffer any fractures, but I did suffer bruises and open wounds that required stitches. My leg stayed swollen for so long that I had to cut out three weeks of training. That set me back several steps in my preparation," she describes her injuries.

The sand specialist is already training again, but would prefer to wait a little longer before returning to racing. This would normally take place on the weekend of October 8, at the Exact Cross of Beringen. "Fortunately the cyclo-cross season starts a little later this year. This way I had a little more time to prepare. Currently the pain still flares up a bit after my workouts. But as soon as I return to competition, I hope to be able to do that again at one hundred percent. I want to get back to a good start straight away," says Betsema.

"Missing a World Cup round is a shame," she continues her story at the Dutch cycling platform. "But by canceling the long trip to the US, I gain extra training days. During the Waterloo weekend I race in my own country in Oisterwijk, the Netherlands. A good test for the material and for my body, a week before I ride my first big cross in Overijse."
