Denise Betsema finished second in the Merksplas
Superprestige on Saturday. She battled
Inge van der Heijden for the second position.
"Of course, it would have been very nice to win today; I really went for that," Betsema said post-race interview. It wasn't a good start for her, but somehow she recovered. However, she lost crucial time as a result. "I had a bad start, and it was very difficult to make up for that. Alvarado was out of sight from the first lap," said Betsema.
She further added, "It was literally pushing. On the first lap, on the first climb after the mud stretch, everyone was running into each other, riders hooked up with their bikes. There I think I lost more than ten seconds. I had to pay for that after that."
As Betsema prepares to start in the Overijse World Cup on Sunday, she will once again try for victory. "I hope for a better day tomorrow and a better start. I didn't feel top, but usually, a double weekend does me good. Then I'm fine on the second day as well," concluded Betsema.
