Wout van Aert and Lotte Kopecky do World Championships recon in Glasgow: "It's a special course"

While all eyes are on Italy, Serge Pauwels took the opportunity to silently explore the World Championship course in and around Glasgow accompanied by no less than Lotte Kopecky and Wout van Aert, among others.

"There was a lot of wind," shares Pauwels in an interview for Sporza. "It can play its part on the open plains in final laps." The Belgian team will be a contender to take the gold medal in both men's and women's events, and the possible leaders of both are seizing this period without competition to get to know the cour

"The local course is a different story," he shares. "Lotte herself said that it was ten times worse than in Leuven in terms of turning and turning. I think there are about 42 corners per lap..." But it doesn't stop there. "The riders also have to go through a park twice, where it suddenly becomes very narrow. Very strange, it looks like an asphalted cyclocross course."

"If a group can escape before the local laps, that attack will last a long time. It will be very difficult to organize something as a peloton. If there is a sprint, I don't see that happening with more than 30 riders."

"It will be a matter of choosing the right moment. Or having the technique of a Wout van Aert or Thibau Nys among the reserves. But if Remco Evenepoel chooses the right moment, he may also go for a solo ride."
