Lennard Kämna was one of the outsiders for the victory in the opening time trial of the
Giro d'Italia, but ultimately came no further than 22nd place. The German lost one minute and 23 seconds to stage winner Remco Evenepoel.
According to Jens Zemke, sports director at BORA-hansgrohe, Kämna has been a bit sick in recent days. “He has not completed the entire training program. He stayed in the hotel yesterday,” Zemke told Der Spiegel after the time trial.
