Arnaud De Lie on GP du Morbihan win: "I still remember when Peter Sagan won the European Championship in Plumelec, I am proud to win there too"

Arnaud De Lie started his season on a high but hadn't actually won in over three months. After a strong spring where he battled against the best on many occasions he returned to a more modest calendar, and has resumed his winning ways at the GP du Morbihan.

“I had good results in the classics, but winning is something else. I was very hungry to cheer again," De Lie said after his fourth win of the season. He last won at the Etoile de Bessèges, and also was victorious at the Clàsica Comunitat Valenciana. "Bretagne is a region that has always suited me well, and winning here is fantastic for me. I still remember when Peter Sagan won the European Championship in Plumelec, I am proud to win there too.”

The 21-year old was a big favourite to take the win in Plumelec, despite the tough profile and hilltop finish. It were good conditions for many other riders, but no-one could maintain an attack into the end of the race, and a small group sprint was decisive. De Lie, having resisted the tough pace, was in the right place. He sprinted to the win, beating Romain Grégoire and Rasmus Tiller.

“I told them I felt good and got Jarne Van de Paar with me all day. The team was exceptional and I just had to finish it," he concludes. "Tomorrow we will start with the same guys in the Tro Bro Léon, and then we will just go for the same thing.”
