When it comes to it's domestic calendar, British Cycling is facing a crisis. However, among the bad news emerges something positive, which is the possible comeback of the Women's Tour.
“The women's tour for 2024 is looking in good shape. We're having interesting and productive discussions with numerous various stakeholders around the country," Hugh Roberts, director of Sweetspot - the company that holds the license of the Tour of Britain, told The Guardian. “We are very confident that after having had to postpone it in June 2023, that we will be in a better position to put it back on the calendar again next year in 2024.”
The Women's Tour was part of the Women's World Tour calendar and was one of the main events of the year in the peloton. Simultaneously, it was one of Britain's most prestigious cycling events.
In recent years monetary struggles have led to several big events in the country to be cancelled, including the Tour of Yorkshire and the RideLondon Classic men's events, and the domestic Tour series. The Tour of Britain itself currently faces major difficulties in maintaining it's existence, or current format. Nevertheless, over the coming months it should be understood if the historic British race could already make a much needed comeback.
