One of the most global sports, riders and fans come from all over the world when it comes to cycling. But in the peloton, who is the most followed on X (Twitter) and can therefore lay claim to being the most popular?
The top four are four veterans who are a world ahead of the rest, two British and two Colombians:
Chris Froome,
Rigoberto Urán,
Mark Cavendish and
Nairo Quintana. Froome leads the list with 1.5 million followers, a vast chasm more than
Wout van Aert who is the fifth with less than 300,000.
Behind are
Tadej Pogacar,
Mathieu van der Poel and
Remco Evenepoel. The popularity of the old glories is tremendous, although it is also due to the fact that cyclists used to be much more active on this network and are now much less communicative with their fans.
The extreme example is the winner of the last two editions of the Tour de France, Jonas Vingegaard, who has barely 11,000 followers on an account he opened last June and on which there is not a single post.
