Lorena Wiebes completed the RideLondon Classique sweep with utter ease, winning all three stages as well as the GC. And she did that for the second time already. World champion Lotte Kopecky returned to racing to support her teammate after a month-long break and she even managed to finish third on a stage two times and secure her own spot on the final podium in the process.
"I am proud of the performance put up by Team SD Worx - Protime at RideLondon," adds world champion Kopecky. "It was a collectively strong showing from the team. What I particularly appreciate is our mutual trust. That's the key to success. Sometimes, your instincts may suggest otherwise, but you must always trust and follow your lead-out. By drawing confidence from each other, we can excel in such hectic sprints."
"I am delighted by Lorena Wiebes' hat-trick," the Belgian continued. "Just before RideLondon, I was feeling a bit under the weather. Unfortunately, I had a fall on Saturday, so it wasn't an ideal run-up. However, we can use this team performance as a foundation to build upon. Hopefully, it sets the stage for a fantastic summer."
Kopecky's summer block of racing will begin with Giro d'Italia Women on July 1. In Italy, she'll try to add more to her stage win from 2021. Next on the menu will be Kopecky's main objective of 2024, the Olympic Games in Paris where Kopecky dreams of olympic gold medal(s) either on track or on the road.
