It seems as if Victor Lafay's transfers saga is to be completed soon. It is reported that the Frenchman is going to sign with AG2R Citroën Team and that a deal is already agreed on.
Lafay was a quality rider, which Le Parisien reports was already in talks to sign with the French team before the Tour de France. There however he surprised everyone, climbing with only Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard on stage 1, and then jumping to a solo win on stage 2. He won the green jersey for a couple days too, and immediately plenty teams jumped into talks with his management, knowing that his contract was ending at the end of the season.
It was for a few weeks talked that INEOS Grenadiers was possibly going to make the investment in the 27-year old. His salary was then requested at around €1.5 million, and although the British team could certainly afford, they ended up not comiting to him - INEOS have in fact not announced any signing yet. Cofidis made an attempt to renew with Lafay with a salary of €1.5 million but unsuccessfully.
AG2R, who are based close to Lafay's home in the Alps, made a similar offer and it is said that there is an agreement. With the salary payed to Greg van Avermaet set to be freed at the end of this season, the French team is investing that money in one France's new top riders.
