"We were planning to attack on the last climb, but Remco was super strong" - Jonas Vingegaard

In a thrilling mountain stage with the very tough finish in Xorret de Catí the Vuelta a España, Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard of the Jumbo-Visma team admitted not having his best day on the road, but highlighted the team's success in meeting its key objectives: winning the stage with Primoz Roglic and putting Sepp Kuss in the lead of the general classification.

"Obviously I'm very proud. We rode very well today. The team was in front all day and on the last climb - it was a perfect day!" exclaimed Vingegaard, who was pleased with his team's performance on a challenging stage. The final climb to Xorret de Catí presented a tough battle between the top riders of the Vuelta a España, with Remco Evenepoel proving his strength. However, the Jumbo Visma team proved its ability by winning the stage with Primoz Roglic and moving Sepp Kuss into the overall leader's position.

"Remco Evenepoel was strong and was able to keep the pace, but we still won and, moreover, we have the red jersey. We are very happy," said Vingegaard.

As for his own performance on the stage, Vingegaard was honest about his performance. "I didn't feel good at all, I didn't have my best day," he admitted. Despite not being in his best form, the Danish cyclist emphasized that the Vuelta a España is a long race and that the final victory will not be decided by seconds.

With the situation under control for Jumbo Visma, the team's focus on this stage was clear: win with Primoz Roglic and put Sepp Kuss at the top of the general classification. Despite the obstacles, the team managed to achieve these crucial objectives.

"In such a situation, we were looking to win with Primoz. We were planning to attack on the last climb, but Remco was super strong. Today it was no longer a question of holding on rather than attacking," concluded Vingegaard, underlining the intensity of the competition on this stage.
