Primoz Roglic and
Wout van Aert have both taken several wins this season whilst racing together, and yesterday was a demonstration on how
Jumbo-Visma has the firepower to both protect it's GC riders but also make the race for the Belgian powerhouse.
“Yeah it’s crazy. He’s half human, half motor. We can’t wish for more. It’s really unbelievable," Roglic said after the finish yesterday in Calais. In a similar way that they've done at Paris-Nice earlier this year, a sharp two-minute effort was enough for
Jumbo-Visma to decimate the peloton in a small hilltop, where
Wout van Aert attacked and rode solo until the line for a glorious win in the yellow jersey.
I’m proud to be a part of it. We were just there, the situation was there, and the guys were super strong. Then it just happened. When he goes, no one can go with him," he added. Roglic couldn't keep up with the pace, and stayed in the peloton as it regrouped and arrived at the finish safely in 55th place.
He was dropped aswell, like Tadej Pogacar, however he explained the situation: "For sure it would have been good [to keep up with van Aert] but he was just too fast. I wasn’t in a super position entering the climb and then I made it up and in the end there was a gap.” Today will be a crucial day for both as they look to defend the team's GC aspirations in the cobbles.
