UPDATE: Paris-Nice's stage 6 cancelled due to horrific weather conditions

Stage 6 of Paris-Nice has had it's length cut, as the strong wins on the opening plains on the day proved to be too much for the riders to race safely. A very large cut sees the day completely change, now with only the final hilly final 79 kilometers to be raced.

"Due to strong winds, today's stage is shortened. The first part will be neutralized and the start proper will be set at km 117.8, in La Fontaine d'Aragon," race organizers stated this morning initially. The original start in Tourves and the opening kilometers of the stage were likely to have winds of up to 40Km/h and gusts that could reach as high as 100Km/h.

UPDATE: Stage 6 has been officially cancelled. After some tough consideration and a neutralized start, Paris-Nice organizers have decided that the most reasonable decision was not to take on the stage.

"After studying several options for modifying the route and waiting for an improvement in weather conditions in the afternoon, the organizers of Paris-Nice have decided to cancel the 6th stage to preserve the safety of the riders of the 81st edition, in agreement with the prefectural services," a further update said. "The exceptionally violent winds, which notably caused several tree falls in the region, make the cancellation of the stage inevitable."
